New York Farm Bureau Unveils State Convention Activities
NYFB’s StaCon to offer educational workshops to help members make important business decisions along with unique networking opportunities.
New York Farm Bureau plans to host engaging workshops and networking opportunities at its State Convention on December 4-6, 2023, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel and Convention Center in Tarrytown, NY. Capitalizing on this year’s theme “A Bridge to Opportunity,” there will be several ways NYFB members and attendees can interact with industry leaders and state officials to make more informed business decisions back home.
There will be six informative workshops that people can choose from on Dec. 5, the first full day of StaCON. These include:
· Protecting Yourself and Your Team: Coverage Essentials for Businesses
· Farm Succession Planning
· Fire Realities: Mitigating the Risk, Protecting Property and Lives Though Pre-planning & Awareness.
· Saving and Making Money with Solar for On-Farm Use
· Utilizing the Overtime Tax Credit for Farmers
· “Head em up, Move em out! - Driving Gen Z Consumers to the Table”
The workshops will be in addition to two panel discussions with food producers and purchasers that will set the stage for a unique “wargame” led by Aimpoint Research. The wargame is a simulation of a business situation where participants plan actions, debate, and deal with real-world scenarios. It is a fun and engaging activity that will provide answers to what agriculture in the northeast wants and needs for the future.
Other new activities include the New York Farm Bureau Marketplace. NYFB members can sell their locally sourced products to convention goers, just in time for holiday gift giving. Other events will include a special awards dinner that will honor Pat Hooker with the New York Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award. NYFB will also host a fun cornhole tournament benefiting NYFB’s Young Farmers and Ranchers program, and a first ever New York Wine, Beer, Cider and Spirits Tasting hosted by the NYFB Promotion and Education Committee. There will also be a trade show to learn about different products and services available to NYFB members.
The following day, Dec. 6, will include NYFB’s annual business meeting featuring delegates from 52 county Farm Bureaus discussing and voting on public policy positions for 2024. It is the foundation of the grassroots advocacy organization.
New York Farm Bureau, the first in the country more than a century ago, is the leading agricultural voice for New York agriculture and its members. Its mission is “supporting today’s agricultural needs and creating member opportunities for tomorrow through advocacy and education.”
